Hi,
MAS is 1.1 with Exchange backend. Normally the MAS modem will answer an incoming call and handshake OK. Except after the MAS has out called with an alarm, then the MAS USB modem is RNA. We have replaced the modem and USB cable and entered AT&F in the init string all to no avail. MAS has been rebooted as well. Presuming it is not a hardware issue (although it might be the COM port), where would my issue reside in Win2K? Thanks in advance!

Try this for haha's:

go to the control panel and then phone/modems, click the modems tab and find the modem installed, then choose the modem and click properties - diagnostics and query the modem. after it completes close out the open windows and try calling the modem to see if it answers. I have to do this on a few MM's out there and I am still working on why. I'llupdate when I have a solution.

of course I forgot to mention that the modem has to be idle, if you have VPN access or WEB-EX or telnet from another location on the customers location.

From the terminal on site, I have uninstalled RAS and uninstalled the modem. I then unplugged the USB cable from the back of the server, waited for 60 seconds to make sure Win2K got updated/sync'd, then plugged the USB cable back into the server. It found the correct modem and installed it. I then installed RAS. Now the waiting game for an actual alarm (testing alarm would not dup the problem) that is NOT service affecting.....Stay tuned...I will reply with an update after an alarm is received.
BTW, I could query the modem from the site terminal.

have you treid using the testaom command from the dos prompt?

Yes I used this command from the terminal on site. After each testaom -a command I would rcv the alarm and I was able to connect each time to the MAS. This is why I would like to "generate" an alarm but not affect service. I can do this in the MSS, but not sure how in the MAS. Any ideas?
Thanks Ken,

Pat

You might be able to stop the message application service and see if that generates an alarm. again this is of course service effecting.

You could also just unplug the network cable for the priv network and that would gen an alarm.

Ken,
There is no network cable from the MAS to the EXCH server as there is no private network for EXCH.
Thnx,
Pat

if you have Q-Sig integration, just unplug the T1 cable. and wait for the alarm.

I am looking for a situation that would NOT be service affecting.
Integration is IP to S8700.
