I have a client that uses a DOS version of MAS 90 (I'm unsure of the exact ver. number). They are running on a Novell enviroment with Windows based clients. We want to migrate their network to an NT based enviroment. My questions are these:

1. Will this version of MAS 90 run on an NT based network?

2. If so, what protocol does the app use (IPX or TCP)?

3. What kind of database does this old DOS version use?

Any other suggestions or considerations you can think of would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Craig

Hi there,

First and formost I would need the version number. If the version is running on a Novell network and DOS workstations there should not be a problem with with an NT system. (Again with the version number I can check older version compatibility charts to make sure.

For Protocol, If you are on an older Novell you will be using IPX.

The database I believe was still providex even in the DOS days.

Has your client considered upgrading to the windows version?

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the long delay with getting back to you on this but my client had nixed doing this and now he's changed his mind again.

Does Office Master Version 6.00 sound right? That's according to my client.

He has gotten several quotes from IT companies to migrate their MAS90 over to NT. I can't imagine how all these people inherently know that this will work so I just want to be sure before I quote him on the job.

Will the app then work fine on a TCP based network once it's migrated to NT and is the migration as easy as just copying the files to NT?
