Hi.

I have a new task involving manufacturing. I am considering using the Mas200 v 3.71 MRP Module.

Any obvious pitfalls? The training resources for Mas MRP are sparse, meaning if I want to send folks to a seminar or a class, there is travel required, at least thats perception. Located mid way between Los Angeles and San Diego.

I am strong on inventory, purchasing, BOM, and work orders, but have not had reasons to play with MRP.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
ChaZ

Are you saying you are located halfway between LA and San Diego or the training is?

Mas200 is one of the most popular mid range ERP systems in the world, and I completely disagree that training is sparse for it, at least as oppossed to its competitors. Your reseller for one should be able to train you, and if you are in southern CA then the largest training facility run by a reseller is in Lake Forest and Sage themselves is in Irvine.

Here are the Mas200 limitations I am aware of:
* Manufacturing features primarily limited to
discrete manufacturers (assemblers and
fabricators)
* No planning bills
* Lot/Serial traceability is limited.
* No incoming inspection function
* No vendor performance tracking
* Can only specifically allocate lot/serial numbers
while invoicing. No specific allocation options
at the order entry level.
* Does not support multiple bin locations per item
* No alternative routing
* Not a real-time system (requires batch updates)

There are lots of 3rd paty solutions for Mas200 and one of them could address these limitations.

What other software are you evaluating? What are some of your specific needs?

I was not clear.

My outfit currently uses Mas 200, and I am the guy responsible for keeping it running.

My employers recently a division of another company that manufactures buses.

I am a loyal fan of Mas 200, I have been successful using and running for some time, but I don't want to delude myself on what it can do on a manufacturing scale as complex as what one might expect, when building a bus from the tires up.

Irvine does not offer extensive MRP training (This from an employee and I had no reason to double check).

As to other software, I have spared some thought to Mas 500.

At current, the outfit is not doing any serious manufacturing. Welding and painting, but most of the real fabrication is in bending and stretching, for what ever that is worth.

I appreciate the quick reply by the way.

Thank you,
ChaZ

I checked out your website. I used to be in the RV industry myself,I cut my teeth as a cost accountant at a well known manufacturer of RV air conditioners and refrierators.

Where are you located?

If you are going to be manufaturing the entire Wanderlodge, I think Mas500 is a great choice. I share your concerns about Mas200 being able to handle your manufacturing needs, which should go well beyond just MRP.

To get good routings, alternate routings, manufacturing cost accounting, shop floor scheduling, and labor reporting, Mas200 will not cut it, IMHO.

Located in Riverside CA.

Will take a longer more serious look at mas 500. Are you familiar with that product as well? I have never used it.

Looking at your website, I don't see references to Mas or Sage products. Do you deal with them?

I just dissolved a partnership with a Mas500 reseller so I had to take down all references to Mas500 or Sage products. I am trying to rectify that.

If you are in Riverside you need to talk to Blytheco in Lake Forest, CA (Orange County) they are the #1 reseller of both Mas200 and Mas500, so they should be able to help.
