Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me how to get the Rectangular marguee tool to have rounded corners.

I have a square image and I want the corners to be rounded.
(like when you feather it, but without the fading)

Does this make sense?

Many thanks!

Gonzo

If you use the round edge rectangle tool you can create a selection from that.

Just draw out your shape, change to the path selection tool, right click and select 'Make Selection'.

Hope this helps.

I've broken it again !!

Brilliant.

Thanks Manic... you've no idea how long I've been trying to do that.

I tried figuring out how to do this recently and didn't come up with the much easier solution that Manic suggested (I wish I had known!!) but instead, I used the Pen tool to draw a octagonal-shaped path, and then pulled out the nodes to make curves on the corners, then did Path->selection. There's always more than one way of doing things in PS isn't there?

cant you just draw a rectangular marquee and go to select>modify>smooth then just cut and paste a nice rounded corner image?

mscallisto - if you are asking ME what version of PS I am using, it's V7. My method actually worked quite well (and I am SO pleased to have thought of it all by myself). I set up four guides (two vertical, two horizontal) each exactly the same disatance in from the edges of the image, and I used these for node placement, so I'd get a very regular shape. When I pulled out the node handles, it was done so that they stayed parallel to the image edges, so I also managed to get matching curves. I tried the rounded rectangular shape, but couldn't figure out how to convert a shape to a selection/path.

Next time, I will attempt Manic's suggestion.

you could hold ctrl+click on the layer to make a selection/path

Actually I just wanted to know what ver DocGonzo uses but it doesn't really matter.

Manic gives a nice method but I am confused a bit.

If you use the rectangle marquee tool and feather you do see a rectangular selection but (image > crop) no longer acts like (image > crop) before the feather.

When you use Manic's method, (image > crop) acts like the normal rectangular selection (image > crop) except the corners remain square.

How does one get the crop to include the rounded corners?

you cannot -- best method is to copy selection and open new file then paste and save

Hi all,

Sorry for late reply. I am using Photoshop CS.

I've found a few ways of doing this, but Manic's is by far the easiest. (for me)
