I have a user on Word 2010 who is editing documents then saving them as normal. When she reopens them or sends them to another via email, it defaults to showing all of the markup. I know you can turn it off manually, but it should not be defaulting to showing the markup upon open. Is there a setting I need to change to prevent this?

The setting to control the markup display cannot be managed by the person sending the emails - it is managed by the receiver. To change the defaults, go to File|Options|Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Privacy Options and uncheck the "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving" option.
