Marking text paragraph with or code

I am putting text ads in a free printed shopper paper. Is there a way to mark the text paragraphs, such as attaching a hidden date, so that I will know when the ad was first run? There are hundreds of ads and hard to keep up with them all. Any ideas?
I am using Pagemaker now, but could switch to quarkexpress if it has something that will help.

Put it in white?

Yes, put it in white, but when you lay it out, assign a special character style to it in another color, then before printing, change the color to white. That way you can see it and turn it off and on at will.

This should work in Pagemaker as well.
