Got several (100+) applications all feeding off of each other which im currently starting a study into,

I can remember from doing this yonks back there is a standard way of mapping these all out,

ie certain symbols to use which mean things such as Business Critical , Superfluous, etc etc and symbols for marking the exchange of data flow etc etc

oh and some wonderful colour schemes to use

does anyone know what iam talking about ?

Chance,

I've never come across anything like you refer to.

The only point in using something 'standard' is the intended audience is familiar with it. If you did find what you once saw it would have no merit since no-one would recognise it. As it is, pick your own symbols and they wil be 'standard' for your project.

You be thinking about entity-relationship diagrams (ERD) or, perhaps, data flow diagrams (DFD) or, even, system flow diagrams.

Google is your friend.

If you have MS Visio, it has templates which will provide much of what you need to document your systems.
