Someone in the linked thread was asking about Edifecs. I am new to the product as well but I do know that SpecBuilder has a tool for doing mapping, MapBuilder. We use it to convert inbound ANSI transactions into a flat file that can be used by other parts of our organization. Also, to convert result files back to ANSI format to send back to the submitters. I know very little about the mapping and the built in help isn't. I am waiting for some scheduled training. If there are any Edifecs mappers on here, we could share knowledge.
