I wanted to set up a virtual directory that points to the root folder of a web site and allow a logged in ftp user to send, receive, and delete files from their website. I tried to set this up, but discovered that an anonymous user could also get files from the server. How should I set the permissions so that the internet user can look at the website but only a certain ftp user can modify the site?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

dont bother using iis ftp server as I wouldnt say it is ecure and also for every user it requires an nt password account try something like deerfields ftp serv-u @ it is alot easier to set up

Hi!

If you are using the IIS Run MMC (Microsoft management Console)right click the default FTP Site->click on properties->Click on security accounts-> uncheck the Allow Anonymous Access->click add in ftp site operators and add any user from Windows NT but you first have to creata account in NT, after this your site will ask for username and password when ever someone try to access it . Hope it will help :).Remember to stop and start the default ftp site. iis_guru@yahoo.com

Thanks for the ideas, I think this helps solve the problem.

In this case, I also have other ftp folders on the ftp site that still need anonymous access. So, I made a new user for anonymous ftp access (and kep the iusr for anonymous website access.) This way I can go into ntfs permissions and tell it to allow anonymous internet access on a sites route folder, but not to allow anonymous ftp access on that same folder.

Do you think this is a good solution?
Thanks in advance,
Jim
