ON an Avaya G3 PBX, Is there any way I can tell if a MAPD card is used for Call Control or Call Streaming ??

macanri,

map-d board CANNOT be used for call streaming and that's the answer to your question. map-d circuit pack is used to provide cti application lan gateway, i.e. interface between isdn guts of definity and tcp/ip outside world. it gives only third-party call control.

Thank you Dwalin.

Can it be used for Call COntrol though ??

Also, is there any way to find out the IP address of MAPD cards from the Avaya ?? Or do I just have to know them without going near Avaya ??

Macanri,

It can be used to provide ACD control to an adjunt by doing adjunt route.
It can be used if you have an application server which provides you ACD/MIS/Logger on a single platform. e.g. Genesys. In this case the adjunct would also want to control the ACD and do call distribution.
In this way you save on the ACD licenses on the EPABX.

The ip address is not required to be mentioned on the definity. But you may still save it under node-name ip-address. it will not harm.

macanri,

yes it can be used for third-party call control, the thing commonly called "computer telephony integration". map-d provides gateway services via dlg and cvlan protocols. in newer communication manager software releases, map-d is replaced by software-only solutions such as co-resident dlg (r12) and aes (r13 and higher).
to know map-d's ip address you should connect a terminal to its administration port and navigate through menus (they're quite self-explaining). unfortunately, there's no way to know map-d's ip address from definity command line, just because map-d itself is a gateway between definity and tcp/ip network, to definity side it looks like a pack of isdn-bri extentsions.
alternatively you can look around for some computer telephony server, either avaya (cvct or avaya ct) or intel ct connect or something like this, and try to find which ip address the server uses to connect to the definity. it will be the map-d's address. but it's easier to go from map-d side.

Hi to see the ip of you mapd you need to log into it. You can use hyperterminal to do it. If you see the backplane the mapd has an anphenol with several cables one is where you connect the network but other is the maintenance port. You connecte and null modem to it and then to your serial port and that's it. Once you open hyperterminal (or asa) you can log into it and follow the menu. The user/password are usually craft/crftpw (or crftpwd).

Once you know the ip you can always telnet to the ip for changing the configuration. Any questions let me know.

Dwalin, Dimpoo, rbordeaux,

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I am asking this is the first place is that we are re-ip addressing our PBX's - to public addrss space and dedicated voice VLAN address space. And the architects said to put anything that is used for Call Control or Call Streaming in the voice VLAN address spce, so I was just asking as I was not sure about the MAPD. Thanks
