Hi there, I know that this has been touched on a couple of times in the past, but I am stuck at one little itty bitty point... I have had a new 800 number added to our system, and it is arriving at our central line as 'Line 002' I know the 'real' number that the 800 number is mapped to, and I know that it is showing up as 'Line 002' as this is what appears at my primary set. . I believe Line 002 is defined as PRI. I have recently been handed the norstar system back as a coworker who was responsible for it has left the company. I am the network admin here and am fairly familiar with the phone system, but have never done much work this deep in the system. I suspect the process I need to follow is to define Line 002 as DID then assign this DID to a group. Please let me know if this sounds like the right track.

Thanks,

Alan

Okay, then 002 would be a channel not a line per se. With a PRI the DID will pick an available channel to come over. Not necessarily the same one all the time. Now, this 800 number should be 'pointed' to a physical number.
ie., my companies 800 number 1-800-736-4397 is pointed to physical line number 1-727-576-5001.

We need to know what the physical line number your 800 number is 'pointed' to so that we can program a target line number and assign it to ring whatever phone you want. MRoberts

Ok, no problem, the 800 number (866-842-7877) is pointed to 613-482-2381. This also enters the system when I try it at Line 002.

Okay, so let's see what digits are being received on the first target line. That way we should know how many digits the telco company is sending us.
Go into programming under Lines
Lines - Show
Show line: 145
Line145:145 - Show
Trunk/Line data - Show
Target Line - Next
Line Type - Public or PRI-A - Next
Rec'd #: ____ What does it say here? MRoberts

Ok, excellent, The rec'd number is 1626 - so therefore we must be looking at the first 4 digits recieved. I also did a quick check and found that we are configured on lines 145 through 149 and that all but 1 of these are valid inbound lines (all of the originally programming charts for the system were lost by someone over a year ago, therefore our system is effectively undocumented...)

Well, they are actually sending you the LAST 4 digits of the phone number. So what has to happen is we need to program an available target line with the receive digits of 2381.
Lines - Show
Show line: 150
Line150:150 - Show
Trunk/Line data - Show
Target Line - Next
Line Type - Public or PRI-A - Next
Rec'd #: - Press change and enter 2381.Then press Next
If busy: to prime - Next
PrimeSet: make this the extension you are going to assign the line to. Then press Next.
CLID set: make this the ext. you are going to assign the line to. Then press Next.
Aux. Ringer: N - Next
-- end of list --

Then Header out to Lines, then press the back button to Terminals&Sets - Show
Show set: ___ Enter the extension number you want the line to ring on. 1.e., 223
223:223 - Show
Line Access - Show
Line assignment - Show
Show line: 150
L150: unassigned - Press change to appr&ring. Depending upon your software level you can press Show again and it will say Appearances: 1. You can press change to add additional appearances of line 150. That way you can have simultaneous DID calls.

See how that works for you.
