This may be the wrong forum for this question, but I'm not sure where else to put it.

I am interested in giving users a city map with a way to enter an address, and show them a pin-point on the map where the address is. There must be some software or tool out there to help with this, but I'm just not sure where! Has anyone seen something similar or know a good place to start looking for info?

Thanks!

[smile] I wrote software to do this!

There are lots of different mapping components that you can use.

MapInfo has a control called MapObjects.
ESRI has a control for this also.

My best suggestion would be to get a copy of Microsoft MapPoint. This is the engine that is used to display maps for Microsoft Streets and Trips. With it, you can geocode addresses.

There are pros and cons with each control. MapInfo and ESRI are expensive, not just for the control, but for the map data. MapPoint is reasonably inexpensive (apperoximately $100 for control and map data for the whole country). The problem with MapPoint is that you cannot modify the streets on the map (to accomodate for a new housing development).

There are other controls out there, but I wouldn't bother with them if I were you.

I hope this helps.
