What is the difference in Windows when selecting 'Map Network Drive' vs. configuring an iSCSI Initiator in terms of protocols and benefits/weaknesses etc.?

Thanks in advance

My guess: protocol!

Map a network drive uses the SMB protocol (Server Message Block - SAMBA)
and iscsi initiator is an entirely different protocol which wraps scsi commands and data frames in a network container.
iscsi, in most cases, would be used to connect to SANs and (large) production servers.

Just my 2 cents worth.
