Is anyone on this forum performing catalog, part number, part availability, or pricing updates between their systems and the systems of their suppliers and manufacturers? In particular, I'm interested in automated (not user initiated) approaches to keeping warehouse stock code and pricing information current.

Anybody interested in working on an information protocol to implement this kind of information interchange?
Tell me more! I worked on a global Intranet spare parts ordering system. We developed an algorithm for providing part availability etc. We had a shadow database on the web server that was updated nightly & weekly from the host.
I would imagine a "protocol" would include basic fields such as SKU, available quantity, price, and description. Also consider: customer type code (for flexible pricing schemes), multiple prices, effective date(s), catalog id, order frequency code, avg. order quantity, max. order quantity, quantity onhand (as opposed to available), safety stock quantity, reorder level, reorder quantity...

Interesting since I am consultant providing operations management consultancy and also
software development for warehouse.
I just done an interface for a web base order processing application which hooks up data
within the production server in the warehouse.
