Howdy--

So, I have a KB Update .exe that related to the DST 2007 issue that is not generally available for WSUS to sync automatically...

Is there a way for me to import it to WSUS and then allow it to push the update?

thanks,

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I just didn't want to have to create an MSI for it.

Or perhaps there's a trick to run .EXEs directly via a GPO that I'm not aware of?

Well, I'm sure you could just call the file from a .vbs login script after doing a quick check. markdmac is your man for that.

Yeah, I hadn't heard his reply yet though. He is usually quick and on top of threads in here. I'm sure he's not busy or anything :)

Good thoughts. I'll test that on the test domain this afternoon. I'm pretty sure there's a /Q "quiet" switch that will work if called from script.

Remind me, or Mark if he jumps on, are "computer" logon scripts run when the computer handshakes and authenticates with the DC, or when a user actually logs on? Some of our machines are "on" but only logged into one or two days a week...

I know that our XP machines will refresh GPO every couple hours, and I have the update set to auto-install inside WSUS so it installs upon GPO refresh (+/- install period).

It seems like logon scripts are dependant on physical logon from what I recall. It's been a while since I've thought about it.

Ok, at BOOT... unlike WSUS which is based upon GPO refresh period (every 2 hours or so).

So, using one of Marks handy remote reboot scripts, I could reboot all known 2000 Pro machines, and then when they come back online, a computer logon script would run the associated VBS script.

Just trying to figure out how to get all 2000 machines to run this executable... across a 110 acre campus... without having to go track them all down :)

thanks. Star for you.
