Greetings,

Does anyone know how to make BrightStor not format a tape and changing the name before writing to it?

I have been trying to setup a simple manual tape rotation that use the Days of the week as the tape labels. I need the tape labels so that other users can change tapes only and not have to fiddle with the software to find out which tape comes next.

The plan is to have 8 tapes labeled Monday 1-Friday 1, Monday 2 - Friday 2. There is no media pool specified and this is using an internal tape drive.

I can't get it to stop formatting the media before each job and overwriting the existing label. I have been over the user guide and the help files a couple of times, but just can't see it.

Suggestions ?

The only way to do it is to create a job for each tape lable and rotate the jobs accordingly. The only way to keep an existing label is to append the tape - presumably not an option for you.

Sorry :(

If you decide to use this route - keep the Backup Manager Window Open, then you can submit the jobs, only changing the schedule and destination without having to completely recreate them.

Rules2liveby,

Thanks for the suggestions. It seems a little odd that ARCServe could manage this but not BS...

Rules2liveby,

Finally figured it out: needed to use a "5 day rotation" scheme. Knew I had seen it somewhere , but just couldn't remember...
