Hi,

I have a problem that i hope one of you guys will be able to help me with.

I am building a comp for my young nephew out of some spares left over from some old machines i have. I have an old MSI 6168 ver2 board i would like to use for this. My problem is this, the board came out of a Packard Bell (I know, stop taking the mickey, thats why it is scrap now) and i cannot find any details of where the various leads for the power switch, HDD light, speaker etc. go.

On the board the is a small picture showing these connections but there dosent appear to be a corresponding connector on the board.

i would be greatful if someone out there is able to point me in the direction of a manual that is specific to the version 2. as it is different from the ver 1 which i can get.

many thanks

brendan

I don't have a quick answer (can't find a manual for the MB), but I was hoping that this might help people to understand the issue in order to help out....

I was doing some checking around, and I think that this is a pic of the ver2 board. Does it look right to you?

If so, then I see the diagram that you are talking about. It is located (in the pic) towards the top right of the MB, right under the battery.

The pins that this diagram refers to is missing. It should be where the solder points are--to the left of the battery (top left corner of the speaker). Being a packer bell, this board may have had a custom cable going to the front panel on the case....

Can you distinguish what the other two pin headers are for right around that area? The pic is not clear!

Other than that, I am at a bit of a loss so far--do you happen to remember the model of PB that this is from? Mudskipper

Ah. Maybe this will help more-- look at the first front panel connector (for MSI6168) at the bottom of the page. It shows that the Motherboard side will connect to "front panel connector ... (FP)"

Then look at this diagram to find FP (on bottom right of diagram).

Now you know the pins--it is just a matter of finding out which are which....

I hope that this helps more than confuses ;-) Mudskipper
