Hi,

Is anybody able to help me to get the "tapeutil" manual?
Seems we do not have it.

Thanks,

Denny

We use tapeutil but don't have the manuel, what do you need to know?

Thanks
Terry

thanks Germo.

Just try to finger out what those menu means.
We are using 3583 tape library, I am wondering is it possible to move the tape from tape drive to I/O station. i try the command move, seems does not work.

Denny

Right, I'll try my best to explain it

1. In the tapeutil menu select (1) Open device
2. Select the /dev/ you want .i.e /dev/rmt2
3. If you want to move the tape from drive to drive you will have to (17)Unload/Load or to move it from slot to slot use (16)Move Medium.

Try that and let me know how you get on.

Thanks

thanks Germo, for your quick reply.
I can use the command to move tape between tape drive and slot, but seems could not move to I/O station(somebody refers as Import/Export station).
Our tape library has 1 tape changer and 2 tape drive.

Denny

hi cpu533,

You can also insert tapes from slot to drive or vice versa via command line. Very handy when creating scripts for automatic backup.

/usr/bin/tapeutil -f /dev/rmt0 mount 1 -->> this mounts tape from slot 1 to tape drive rmt0 or rmt1 whichever you want it to mount to.

/usr/bin/tapeutil -f /dev/rmt0 unmount 1 -->> this unmounts the tape from rmt0 to slot 1.

You may check out other available commands by issuing
tapeutil -h -->> or any option other than -f =)

In interactive mode, open device, then use option 12, it will show all element information. E.g. for a 3590 minirobot (10 slots and one Import/Export slot):

Opening device...

Hit <enter> to continue...

Number of Slots ............... 10
First Slot Address ............ 32
Number of Import/Exports ...... 1
First Import/Export Address ... 31
Number of Drives .............. 1
First Drive Address ........... 16

Hit <enter> to continue...

This shows me that the media slots are addressed as element numbers 32 to 41. The (one and only) import/export slot is addressed as element number 31. The (one and only) drive is addressed as element number 16.

You can use these element numbers in tapeutil command lines.
