I have created web sites using ASP and coding the programs manually. Ithough I would give this tool a try because I can create a formatted page in minutes. However, It is a struggle. I am able to format my pages but am struggling with how do the responses. Have decided to manually code the responses and all the SQL.

Has anybody taken this approach : use the tool to create the pages and manually code the responses ?

thanks

Not sure what you mean. The editor gives plenty of assistance when coding - so it is better than NotePad for example.

If you are prepared to learn about DTC's and the Script Object Model (SOM) way of working, then you can reduce the code right down to a minimum. It does take time though.

MerlinB, lety me calrify,

We have 1 developer who is just learning this tool and, at the moment is only comfortable with creating the screens - no other coding.

I do not have VID; So, we decided a setup where he can create the screens then pass them on to me to write the ASP and VBscript code. I am using Ultraedit32 which has code highlighting.

My concern is that we would like to use VID to Deploy the programs...are there any remifications to doing it this way ?

thanks

I don't think so. VID should be slightly better than UltraEdit, even in this scenario.

I do not use VID for final deployment - However, it can use Frontpage Server Extensions (FPSE), if present, to simplify the sending (synchronising) of files to the target server.

Without FPSE, it is pretty much the same as using FTP. (Content Management)
