Hi out there.

You can call it old-fashioned, but I want to have good old manpages in my AIX5.3 box. It seems to be, that in AIX 5.2 the fileset bos.man.en_US.cmds was delivered, but in AIX5.3 came the info_center, and the manpages were dropped.

Is there a way to have AIX5.3 manpages ( of course I could install the AIX5.2 manpages, but I dont want to have something missed in new version ) or is there a way to read the info_center from ASCII-Terminal?

Thanx in advance

bos.rte.man ?

The man pages work on my aix53 boxes (I guess as an interface to the info_center database...

I've got 4 5.3 machines, and the man pages works on all of them. I don't recall installing anything specific.

I guess you need to install infocenter.aix.EN_US.commands and bos.rte.man filesets (and perhaps requisites).

From the AIX53 man manpage:

The man command displays the manual pages as follows:
1 The man command searches the nroff directories (man?) under the
/usr/share/man directory.
2 The man command searches the formatted version directories (cat?)
. . .
and displays the manual page using the command described by the
PAGER environment variable.
5 If the man command does not find a manual page in hypertext
information bases reside in the /usr/share/man/info directory
structure, then it looks for user-specified hypertext information
base (through -M or MANPATH). The user-defined hypertext
. . .

As I read your answers, I tested the manpages on a AIX5.3 machine, which I installed with the CD. And yes, manpages are working properly.

Therefore I have to re-formuate my question:

From a NIM-Installation, which installps have to be installed for working manpages??

bos.rte.man + infocenter.aix.en_US does not the trick, there must be something additional.

Thanx for your answer

problem is solved: All the installps mentioned above are necessary PLUS a link from /opt/ibm_help/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.aix.doc_5.3.0/cmds to /usr/share/man/info/en_US/a_doc_lib. With this link all is fine. You have to force overwrite the infocenter-package or to manually link this.

Thx and close
