I have another dirty dealing with file manipulation,

Is it possible to change the contents of a file using grep or some other tool (awk?), I want to search for a "string" and replace it in 50 or so text files.

Grep picks out the string ok, but I am not sure how to replace it?

Any help is much apreciated
