Manipulate .map file to be readable?

I'm in the process of documenting a MASSIVE workflow, and i'm really trying to keep my sanity after dealing w/ the painter. I'm manually clicking on steps to gather configuration, notification verbiage, etc. So I got the bright idea I would export the map, and manipulate the text file, so I could have a line by line (step by step) list of my config steps. I gave up on that method, so does anyone have a quick or dirty way of viewing the config behind workflow steps aside from manually clicking on each one.
