Has any one else had trouble ordering from the mandrakestore? I ordered on line 9.2 they confirm by email.
however they dont deliver. I emailed their tech support and had a curt reply to check the status online. so I did. I then look at the email and it was supposed to ship 1st week of november. Still no product and my credit card has been charged. I dont get any replies from mandrake anymore after repeated emails? I know they are shipping from Paris France. I have called my credit card co to hold the payment and research the order.

has anyone experienced difficulty with mandrake?
Is it in the stores ? and if so where?

When did you order? Typically, Mandrake offers a release for pre-sale, before the cd's are actually available. Their site says that they are now shipping, but I don't know when they started - according to a newsletter that I receive, as of October 24 they were still at the pre-order stage.

I don't have any experience whatsoever, but I do know 9.2 has had some trouble frying people's CD drives... there's a possibility you're waiting on a critical fix... there is an announcement on their website saying the problem has delayed the release of Public ISO's, I don't know if that includes ordered CD's or not.

I don't know any specifics about the 9.2 CDs shipping, but there's a blurb on the website that says:

October 24th, 2003 - Important notice! - Several users have reported a big issue with LG Cd-rom drives used with Mandrake Linux 9.2: these CD-rom drives are not compliant with ATAPI specification and therefore can be damaged. All details, future updates and possible fix related to this issue are available at this page. Other Cd-rom drives are not affected by this issue. Update - Nov 3rd, 2003: due to this issue, the release of Mandrake 9.2 public ISO images has been delayed for a few days.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was also delaying shipments of CDs, since they seem to still be holding off on allowing public downloads of the .iso images. An inconvenience, but preferrable to a shagged CD drive I would think :)

By the way, I've been a Mandrake user for several years now, and dealt with support once when I bought a boxed set way back when. I got great results from Mandrake to the tune of a new boxed set (an upgraded version at that!).

I read on another forum that Mandrake is in financial trouble. Also, this months issue of PCMag has an article rating Linux distros. No mention of Mandrake. Sounds like their going belly up???

MandrakeSoft went into France's equivalent of U.S. Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January of this year.

The only thing I've heard since is a press release from MandrakeSoft in early July stating that they hope to be out from under bankruptcy by the end of the year.

Mandrake 9.2 was released yesterday (2003-11-13) in public ISO.

Anyone know anything more?

You seem to be able to download a firmware update to fix this:
then go to 'Product Support', then 'Device Drivers', then 'CD-ROM'.

Downloading my 9.2 .isos now :)
