Hi, I just istalled MDK 9.0 and cant connect to the internet via cable modem is there any logs or conf file I can check to see if everything is right. It goes from my NIC to my cable modem. Thanks

Most problems will be shown in your /var/log directory. you can also check to see if the server see's your card with the ifconfig command issued as root. There is just so much information you can get from there. If its not showing you may have to compile/install the drivers yourself, try moving the NIC to another PCI slot first, then look for the drivers if that doesnt work. If it is showing, does it have an IP address? if not your NIC may not be set for DHCP. If it does have an IP address, Can you ping by FQDN(i.e. cisco.com) can you ping by IP, i always use 4.2.2.1 which is genuity's nameservers and ALWAYS up. If you can ping by IP but not FQDN then you might wanna check /etc/resolv.conf to see if you have nameservers in there. If you cannot ping by IP or FQDN but do have a valid IP address you can check your firewall(iptables) with iptables -L to see if there is some wierd reject rule in there, you can use iptables -F to clear all rules. I hope this helps

i had a problem like that on freebsd and all i had to do is add
nameserver = (dns ip) pretty sure it is this if not use
nameserver=(dns ip)
to the resolv.conf file in /etc

that solved my problem on freebsd
