Mandrake 8.1 Konqueror will not open

I recently installed Mandrake 8.1 and it ran fine for a while. Then for some reason Konqueror, under KDE, refused to start properly. If I run Konqueror I see it begin to start in the "taskbar" however it never opens.

ps -aux | grep konq shows "kdeinit: konq" is still running. It seems to never fully initialize. Has anyone seen this? Or, do you know of a log file I can check/enable?

have you tried running it from command? see what errors are getting spit out... leo

Thanks. I did try running it from a bash shell and no errors, no debug, nothing shows.

Hi,

Does it work from another logon ? Sometimes you get odd errors with missing / corrupt config files in the user directory, i.e. joeuser cannot run it but everyone else can. If you try this (set up a test user if necessary) it will tell you if the problem is user specific.

Pardon my 'newbie-ness' but, could it be possible that the window is open but just not viewable? This sometimes happens with Windows where an app starts and is not minimised but you cannot see the window because it is being displayed off the screen. In Windows, you press Alt+Space to bring up the window control box, hit 'move' and then use the arrow keys to bring the window back into the viewable area.

Then again, I may be making canine-like noises up erroneous naturally occuring wood structures.....

Another thing you could do is look in the /tmp directory for any old socket files lying around. For example, if your logon was joeuser do :



ls -l /tmp/ksocket-joeuser



If there's anything old looking there then delete it.
