Hello.

Having problems loading Mandrake onto AlphaPC LX164.

I use AlphaBios. Ive also followed readmes on the Mandrakes intall CD. Heres what in the readme.milo file:

~~~~~~~~
* to install from the cdrom:
- put boot/cdrom.rdz on a floppy
- put that floppy in drive fd0
- configure alphabios with (example for miata):
Boot File: CD: \milo\miata\linload.exe
OS path: CD: \milo\miata\milo
OS options: boot scd0:/boot/instboot.gz root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1 mdkinst rw ramdisk_size=32000
~~~~~~~~

I did the above and of cource instead of "miata" i used "lx164"

AlphaBios doest like the OS Path : CD: \milo\miata\milo line, but i ignore it.

Once i launch "Mandrake" ...it loads some stuff up (Linux Loader 1.5), reboots , tries to load some stuff again and stops here:

===========================================================
Flash Device ...
16 segments...
No environment present
Linux/Alpha Miniloader (MILO) v2.0.35-c5.6 .....

Type <dev>: to set active devices, with.....

Please wait while setting up devices...
Major devices are: fd(0002) ide0(0003) ide1(0016)
MILO: unknown filesystem on device sr0
MILO: Failed to load kernel
MILO:>
===========================================================

Seems like there is no CDROM. What am i doing wrong?

Thanks

Got it kidna resolved. I wrote a txt wat i did, which might help fairly new users like myself:

1. Use "rawrite" utility to load from image to a floppy.
/boot/cdrom.rdz to a:

2. Physical configuration on your AlphaPC :

Floppy (fd0)
IDE0 - HDD (hda)
IDE1 - CDROM (hdd)

* for some reason, HDD and CDROm on the same IDE device does not work for MILO. When it is the case, CDROM is not present physically when MILO boots up.

3. in AlphaBIOS, have these parameters:

OS Name: any name you want (eg. Mandrake)
Boot File: CD: \milo\lx164\linload.exe
OS path: CD: \milo\lx164\milo
OS options: boot hdd:/boot/instboot.gz root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1 mdkinst rw ramdisk_size=32000

Disregard the warning message regarding the "OS path: CD: \milo\miata\milo"

ESC,ESC.... untill your in the OS selection menu.

4. Have the floppy (created in step 1) in the floppy drive.
Select the OS you just created in step 3 and start it.

5. Lots of crap will start showing, then itll reboot.
When it ask for the floppy, press Enter.
Installation will start

Has anyone ever installed Mandrake on AlphaPC LX164?
