Good day all,

With multiple IPO clients, and multiple techs with laptops visiting the client sites, the question has been raised:

What are the rules regarding different versions of the Manager app being used on varying revision level control units?

ie mangaer 2.1.15 used on a 2.1.27 control unit, or vice versa?

I would upgrade the manager app. on all techs laptops. You can download the Admin CD for free. then when a tech comes across control units that are at a lower level they can uprade those as well.

Use the latest released version of the manager as the same major build of the firmware the ipoffice is running. So I'm using manager 2.0(18) on ipoffices running 2.0 and manager 2.1(27) on ipoffices running 2.1.

If you start mixing things up you will corrupt everything and it will be a lot of work to figure this out and fix everything afterwards.

I don't agree with juandebobo. Certainly don't upgrade sites when it's not necessary just because the engineer has not the correct version installed. This is asking for problems.

Well this is were we argree to disagree.

There is no reason for any IPO in the field to be at a lower level than 2.1.(27) these are maint patches and are released for reasons. You need to upgrade when you get the chance.

PS....Please don't take it personal, I learned a long time ago there are may ways to do things in IPO and I am learing new things everyday, and still post questions here, for some of the silliest things.

I'll agree to disagree as well.

Why fix what doesn't need fixing? It seems with every version of IPO that comes out, Avaya fixes two things, but breaks one that worked all along!

I INTENTIONALLY run older versions on control units that I know are working perfectly as is.

Dispensing quality rants and mishaps since 1999:

I would agree with Jonny to an exctent, "IF it Aint Broke Dont Fix It!". We have some sites that are still running V1.2, they do not have any problems & do not require any of the more recent features so why ask for trouble?

We always recomend to our field engineers that they use the customers VM PC for admin tasks (this should have been installed @ the same level as the system & upgraded if necessary)

Our remote Engineers usualy use the latest version of the major software release but do have all lowere versions available in case of problems)

The biggest danger is if you use a Lower version of manager than the system unit as this will effectivly erase parts of the CFG & some of the default settings are not correct.

examples - V2.0 manager WILL corrupt V2.1 licence keys
V1.0 Manager can turn off CRC checking on pri lines, This causes lots of fun!
