Hi!

I've got a 3COM 4400SE (firmware version 2.60) and I have problems setting the Management IP address in other VLAN different from the Default VLAN.
I create other VLANs but when I try to modify the IP parameters, I am not allowed to choose a different VLAN than VLAN 1.

Can someone help me?
Thanks,

JAG

Strange.... The manual says it can be in other different VLAN.... This is a snippet from the manual:

Modifying IP Interface Information

You can modify IP interface information using the modify command on the Interface menu.

To modify IP interface information:

At the Top-level menu, enter:
protocol ip interface modify

The following prompt is displayed, allowing you to select the IP interface: Select IP interface [1,2,3]:

Enter the number of the IP interface.

The following prompt is displayed, allowing you to enter an IP address for the interface: Enter IP address [0.0.0.0]:

Enter a valid IP address.

The following prompt is displayed, allowing you to enter a subnet mask for the interface: Enter subnet mask [255.255.255.0]

Enter a subnet mask, if required.

The following prompt is displayed, allowing you to enter a VLAN ID for the
Switch:
Enter VLAN ID (1,5)[1]:

Enter a VLAN ID.

Yes, you can add any port to any vlan, and even assign an ip to that port, but the DefaultVlan(1) is management one.

That snippet does not even mention the management port.

The problem I have is the following: The 3COM switch has other VLANs created which are tagged in the link between the 3COM and another switch I have. Besides, the switch I connect the 3COM to is already using VLAN 1 for other purposes. That's why I don't want the management interface being part of VLAN 1.

But I cannot assign an IP interface to other VLANs different from VLAN1. I would like that one of the VLANs that I have created in the 3COM switch would have an IP address, but this is something I'm not allowed to do in the 3COM. How do you create a new IP interface?
