I have "ppp" remote connnection to S8700.
CMS is connected to this system.
Can I administer CMS system using this "ppp connection"?
How may I realize routing between "ppp" and C-LAN?

Thanks.
Jan

jasiek,

officially you can't. that's because ppp remote connection to s8700 should be used only to monitor and/or manage the switch itself, not adjacent hardware. however, s8700 in essence is a linux box and as such you can use it to do whatever you wish, including ip routing as well. switching it on will require that you have root permissions on the linux box. but getting these permissions will a) require some hacking that i will not discuss here and b) it could (and definitely would if i get it right) violate your warranty on the switch. so officially you can't but in real life everything is possible. :)

I use the terminal emulator to do this all the time. First, you need to have a login with shell permissions set to yes. You can then use the terminal program to telnet to the S8700 and login. You should be at a shell prompt. You can then telnet from there to the CMS. Unfortunately, the previous post is correct in that no routing permissions have been given to the customer.
