Right now I have a managed router and am trying to decided if its worth it to learn the router and save the company $$$. I currently have cisco switches and pix's.

Should I take over the router?

Is the setup pretty straight forward?

That depends---what sort of setup are we talking? BGP? Frame Relay? T1? VoIP on the LAN?

single location data t1 and I have the config that our managed is running now. I wouldnt enter their snmp settings

i know how to get around ios. just havent played with a router yet.

I would not have a managed network on a T1 connection to the internet.. As long as everything is secure and you can pass a PCI compliance test... If not, lock it down and then terminiate your managed service...

P.S. get a copy of a running-config just in case...

Manage that router guy!!!! On a T1 connection, I don't think it could get any easier and you could pick that up fairly quick. And - u get experience.

I tend to agree with jeter, from a support point of view myself...

cisco 2811? which model should I be looking at?

What? Is this a different issue altogether now? Or did you mean to post that in a different thread???

Burt

i believe the current router is owned by our ISP. if I take this to unmanaged, I have to purchase the route

I see. You can't find out what they have? How would that save the company $$$?
