IS-IT--Management
I've bought in a managed VPN service to connect five remote Pcs to our main site. All pcs run XP pro and our servers are win 2003. The VPN has been setup betwen our Inty server(an all-in-one firewall, email server, running unix) and a small firewall/router at the remote end.
Having bought this service, I'm told the remote pcs just become part of our network, but I can't see them from here through network places, and the security doesn't tie in with active directory.
For example - user A has an account and password created on the main server. I then go to the remote site and go to control panel, user accounts and add a new user with the same name and password (if I jst try to logon with the same name and password I'd noramlly use, it doesn't recognise me, not even as administrator). They can then log on and receive their email through the VPN link. However, if they then change their password, the password on the server doesn't change and they lose their emails. How do I link the two? And how do I see a pc at the remote site, given that the IP ranges are different (local site is on 172.16, remote site is on 192.168).
Any advice on this type of setup would be most welcome.
