Hi

I got error messages "The IP address for hermes is not consistent".
This seems to be name and IP resolution issue.
I have checked the them by:

/etc/hosts
nslookup
/opt/OV/support/gethost hermes

They all returned the correct name and IP. Any other possibility to cause this error?
Thanks in advance.

Roy1,

Where and when are you receiving this message? NNM server? ITO Operations server? (i.e. an event or browser message)

I would try looking a little further in the name to IP resolution area. I'm not really familiar with the gethost command provided by OV, but I am going to assume that the name it returns is resolved locally on that server, as well as the hosts file and nslookup if the /etc/nsswitch.conf file is configured to look in files first.

Assuming that you are using NIS+ try looking in your host map for this information.
niscat hosts.org_dir | grep 'hostname'
do you get the same information returned. I would think that other communication troubles exist if nis does not match what/who the hosts really is.

Yi,

Are you using Cisco HSRP? If so that will sometimes confuse OV.
