Hello,

This is a tough question. My outlook 2003 runs very slow. It has gotten so slow that click through 5 emails can take 10 minutes or so. My pst file is 600MB. The limit is 2gigs. I archive every 6 months. I also compact the pst file. I also clean up and delete any files I don't need. My system is tip top, running on a p4 system with xpsp2 and 2 gigs of RAM with large harddrive.

Does anyone know why it's so slow? Infact, my computer hangs at times when ever outlook is open (usually when it's syncronizing folders which is set at every 20 minutes but not always).

But most importantly, how can I get performance back to like it was several months ago without having to delete all my files. A quick google search led to lots of ideas, ALL of which do not work. And I think this performance issue with outlook is quite common.

600MB is still way too much email.

.pst files are truly evil.

There are known performance problems when the number of items in any of the key folders get too high. Keep the number of items in folders such as Inbox to a minimum.
