I started a tread (thread52-349307) called "MAN pages installation". The answer that I got was very good but not exacly what I was asking for.

The answer on my tread was "Toss in the basic documentation cd, mount it under /infocd, and run linkbasecd".
This creates a soft link to the cdrom drive and therefore you have to have basic documentation cd mounted in the cdrom drive all the time in order to browse the MAN pages.

Is there any way of installing the man pages on the hard disk instead?

Thanks a lot.

You didn't say for AIX 4.3 or 5.1? Mostly 5 is installed automatically...but there were some problems....see the urls below

These should help

Man for V 5:

Man for V4:

How do you install man pages from and mount the Base Documentation CD-ROM?

Solution

These are the only filesets needed on the system to run man pages:

bos.html.en_US.cmds.cmds1 4.3.0.1 AIX Commands Reference 1 - U.S.
bos.html.en_US.cmds.cmds2 4.3.0.1 AIX Commands Reference 2 -
bos.html.en_US.cmds.cmds3 4.3.0.1 AIX Commands Reference 3 -
bos.html.en_US.cmds.cmds4 4.3.0.1 AIX Commands Reference 4 -
bos.html.en_US.cmds.cmds5 4.3.0.1 AIX Commands Reference 5 - U.S.
bos.html.en_US.cmds.cmds6 4.3.0.1 AIX Commands Reference 6 -
bos.html.en_US.nav 4.3.0.1 Online Navigation - U.S.
bos.html.en_US.topnav.navigate
