MALWARE/ ADWARE

I am running NIS 2004 Pro.

Also running:-

SPYFERRET
SPYBOUNCER
NOADWARE
WEBROOT SPYSWEEPER
SPYWARE DOCTOR
WINPATROL

All these are up to date.

Now when I run these I get no alert reports.

However, I also can run AOL SPYWARE PROTECTION. I then get reports of 2 ADWARE/MALWARE:-

GATOR
VIRTUAL BOUNCER

I block/delete them but they both come back again even tho' I have not signeed onto the web between times.

I have tried as per symantec KB article by running full can in SAFE MODE but this detects nothing.

Any ideas?

I have finally got to the point - after wasting 2 1/2 days of time - of AOL saying that they think there software is giving 'false-positive' reports and to therefore unload their spyware protector and use either Spybot or Lava soft adaware.

However, in using Spybot I then got a different alert for a supposed Malware 'DSO Exploit' and nothing would eradicate it - every time it was deleted, it came back. Further searching revealed that there is an error in spybot which false reports some of the leaks in Internet Explorer as malware and that Spybot are working on a fix.

So who does one trust?

I also was recommended to use Pest Patrol - I tried it and it listed dozens of so-called malware entries in the registry - the trial version does not allow one to delete them. However, I became suspicious - a detailed scan using regedit did not reveal any of the reported entries. Am I missing something here or is this a ploy to make one subscribe by showing false-positive reports which then 'successfully disappear when one subscribes to the full version.

I no longer know who is scamming who!!

Any Comments?
