I recently had many problems with shutting down the computer now after hard work it does n't shut down after a while how do I make scandisk run automatically if computer crashes or doesn't shut down properly?.

Chris

If Windows does not do a proper shutdown scandisk should run when you rebbot your machine.

run msconfig go to advanced in the general tab make sure disable scandisk on bad shutdown is unchecked

I've got it unchecked already.
And scandisk doesn't run still.

Chris

edit your msdos.sys file in the root dir with word pad.
Make sure this line is there, AutoScan=1
You'll have to change the files attributes to save it.

I might be wrong but I think we are on the wrong question side,
real problem is WHY the PC has trouble shuting down
did you encounter many fatal exeptions?
have you recently added or uninstalled any prog?
did you check for conflict?
do you multitask and multithread? without enough memory
at least 128, you may encounter that kind of problems
check your reg b using a tool such as reg cleaner

Fair enough,
but I have no fatal exceptions.
Added and installed a lot of programs.
There is no conflicts (I disabled the sound card dos settings).
got 256 Ram
I'm scared of reg cleaners. Unless someone can convince me it won't hurt my system.
