making mksysb to other PP size disk

Hello,
I intend to move the rootvg to other PV. I can't make a mirror since the old PV is 4MB PP, and the new PV is 9GB size (so it's more than 1016 PP...).
I would like to hear advice how to make it.

Another related question: Can I make a mksysb to a 4MB PP size PV, then put it on larger PP size PV ?

mksysb will do what you need as long as you don't use partition maps (-m option to mksysb)

You could you the factoring option of chvg if you are in AIX 4.3.1 + i.e.:

chvg -t 3 rootvg

# This changes the max PP's per PV to 3048

extendvg rootvg hdisk1

migratepv hdisk0 hdisk1

reducevg rootvg hdisk0

bosboot -ad /dev/hd5

et voila.

It is another option anyway. PSD

As stated by chapter11 this shouldn't be a problem, however if you are running an older version of AIX you may need a custom image.data to achieve this.

Run mkszfile to create /image.data and then edit this file to change the PP size to the required size for your new disks. Remember to also change the number of PPs for each logical volume (ie, if doubling the PP size then halve the number of PPs for each LV).

Then run mksysb without the -i flag (so it doesn't overwrite your image.data) to a tape. Replace the smaller disk with the larger disk and restore the mksysb image from tape.
