Hi,

I am trying to create a vector drawing of our company's logo. My only example is a jpeg with a white background. The jpeg is anti-aliased, so separating the letters from the background using the photoshop magic wand tool doesn't work very well.

Currently I'm tracing the letters with the pen tool in Illustrator 7.0. It's pretty tedious, and the results can be imprecise. It's hard to predicably smooth out bumps, etc.

I was wondering if some people in the forum design or have designed fonts, and could offer tips or direct me to some tutorial pages dealing with problems that arise in this sort of activity.

thanks for any help,

Sundemon

You may be able to avoid all your trouble if you know the font that is used in the logo to begin with and then obtain that font. That would be a good start.

Do you have that information?

InDesign CS, Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, Acrobat 7
Windows XP & MAC OS X (Yes I Use Both, Not at the Same Time)

Sundemon:

To locate the font, go to this site, it's pretty handy:

Just follow the instructions, and away you go...

If you can't find the font, the pen tool is going to be the way to go. If you care to email me a copy of that file, I'll make a little tutorial out of it to illustrate how you need to go about it using the pen tool.
