Making fields uneditable in Project 2002 Web Access

I am in the process of deploying an Enterprise wide Project 2002 Solution. One of my mandates is the ability to display the date that an issue was created. The only date field available is the "due date". I have created a custom date field that I have labeled as Date Created, but I can not make the field uneditable after it is submitted the first time. I know this functionality is available as this is how the progress field works. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
