Is it possible to make BC9 INL on a HDU, using NIU board, Ethernet connection and MD Disc Tool from SAM toolbox? I have experience with creating BC10/BC11 INL, but what about BC9? Someone told me that structure of files on HDU is different and it is not possible.....

Hello,

NIU does not work with BC9 : you must use IPU.

On which media is your INL ?

If your INL is on PC, you have to use MD disk tool and a SCSI card on the PC linked on IPU.
When loading is complete, unmount the file system and insert a new HDU (issue already discussed).
If your INL in on HDU : loead from this HDU and change the HDU when completed.

Hi RORNI,
I know that in BC9 I have to use DOS version of MDDT and SCSI card in PC. I have used it before to make BC9 INL. I know the right way.
Now I am temporary without a SCSI card in my PC. I just wanted to know if someone knows some trick how to make BC9 INL using NIU and SAM toolbox.
Best Regards

If you need a BC9 INL this is one way to go about:

You need a BC9 site as complete as possible regarding software (PUs) and patches.

Make sure the free space in the file system (SYSSUBFS11) is large enough also for an INL.
Make a dump in INL format ( DUSII; ) on the regular HDU.

Now you have a BC9 INL containing all the Program Units and patches that were in your BC9 MD110.

Uninstall the BC9 HDU.

Bring the BC9 HDU to a BC10/BC11 site equipped with a NIU.

Install the BC9 HDU as an additional disk in the BC10/BC11 MD110.

Connect your PC to the NIU´s Ethernet port.

Now you can use an FTP-client and copy the BC9 INL to your PC. Copy from the level just below the mounting point and you will get the entire file structure including all directories.

It might be a good idea to use your FTP client to delete the INL from the BC9 HDU at this point.

Uninstall the additional BC9 HDU and reinstall it in your BC9 MD110 again.

When you want to use your INL you need to copy it from your PC to the media you will use during initial loading. Don´t forget to copy the entire file structure but before you do that delete REL1 otherwise you will end up having both an INL and a REL on the same media. If that is the case the MD110 will try to make a RELOAD and your INITIAL LOAD will not start.

You can prepare the HDU you are going to use for Initial loading in the BC10/BC11 MD110. When you have done all the steps you do defining a new disk use your FTP client and delete all files and directories. Now the HDU is empty and you can copy your BC9 file system including the INL to it. This HDU will now function as a BC9 initial load volume.

Thanks FICRI,
I will try this.

Please observe that an INL created like this will only contain the program units that were in the original BC9 MD110. This is why I recommend to do this in an MD110 as complete as possible regarding software (PUs) and patches.

The same procedure done in BC10/BC11 will result in an INL containing every available PU, but on the other hand you will then also need a valid licence file for the MD110 you are about to initial load.
