Making Backgrounds

I'm trying to have my site in the center and then make some designs on both left and right side, which gives it a "floating" look. Is there a trick on making this... look at this to see what i'm talking about.

all that is is a background that is repeaded horizontally and a center aligned table

... and it can actually be only one pixel wide!
(and thousands high, depending on pattern)

The alignment can be tricky though, align from top down.
We did one of these this week and it did take some table tweaking in NOTscape 4.7 vs the MIEs. A one pixel spacer fixed it in the end, but it should not have needed it.



(I used to be a huge NN fan ... until 4.7x. Tim Berners-Lee was right)
