Hi there, I'm a complete newbie, but have created a database in access with a form that I want to make an executable file (so that I can open the database/form without access itself.) i was told the way to do this was to do it in Visual Basic....i have VB, but have no idea where to begin. Any help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks...

You will need to purchase ODE (Office Developer's Edition) to do this.

Best regards,

Henry, thank you for your promt reply. If I do get ODE, what do I need to do? Is it a simple task? I'm a doctoral student in pharmacology (the database is a pharmaceutical list) and obviously have no experience with programming. Is there a resource on the web that my have a step by step process that I can follow? Thanks again and sorry to bother...

Hi S,

I am rather new to the ODE tools myself. I have found very little reference on the Web and little help on these forums although I have gotten great help with any other questions I have posted here.

It is pretty straight forward. Much like a wizard. It gets into command lines and stuff I don't much understand but I was able to create an .exe on my second try. I missed the "Include Access Run-time" check box on the first try.

I have heard that you have to be careful on where to install the app. I think if it goes in the same folder that a full version of Access is, it can corrupt the full application. Microsoft Web site might be of help. Post any good references you may find!

Best regards,

Henr¥

Hey Henry, my name is Sarang by the way. Sorry, have a habit of signing just S. I think i'm going to order the trial CD of ODE as I definately do not have the money to buy the full version. I guess i'll play around with it and try. I'm hoping to ask one of my associates if they have that version, so maybe I can just send them the mdb file (its only like 170k) and they can do it for me (it takes quite a while for the trial CD to arrive). Thanks, again!

Sarang, send it by. I can't promise any time frame as I am extremely busy now, but it should take only a few minutes.
