I hope this is the right forum but please advise if not. I am using Microsofts new 2010 beta version of Access. I want to distribute a very simple database that records time spent ona job and calculates the invoice and prints an invoice report. I want to make an executable file of my database so that people without MS Access can use the database. This is not a commercial thing. However, when I try the share option and choose the make accde file or similar file access says it can't create it - help says usually because of the number of table IDs. This is really a very simple and small database with only 5 small tables. Can anyone help or tell me how I can get round this problem please?

I've not come across that problem before, but the first thing I'd try is importing all objects into a new .accdb file. It's my equivalent of a Helpdesk's advice to reboot the PC - I don't know why it works with so many problems, but it's often worth a go. ;)

If that doesn't work then I'd suggest not using O2010. It is, after all, still a beta and is bound to have plenty of bugs.

On a related subject - I'm not sure that converting to an .accde file is going to do what you want. The code in an .accde file is fully compiled, however it is not a standalone, executable files (unless things have changed in Office 2010 that I'm not aware of). You need to use Runtime Access to distribute the database to people without full MS Access. More info here:

Dear Ed
Thank you again for your info. I am now downloading the runtime access. The orignal problem was that I had place a function in the file and removed the related form so that when it was compiled it through up an error. Now fixed thank you.

You're welcome.

Glad to see Microsoft are sticking with the tradition of making Access's Help less helpful with every new release of Office. ;-)

It's been a long time since I've worked with deploying runtime Access, but I seem to remember it not being as straightforward as it should be. Of course, things may have improved since then, but if you do run into difficulties feel free to post back.

Thanks will do. I have not used it at all so watch this space. I wholeheartedly agree with comments regard to Access help. Youwould think they would be doing everything in their power to make sure people wanted to use their products - how naïve of me!!
