making a sharepoint 3 site a www site 1

Morning all, (or which evertime of day it is in your part of the world)
I have made up a sharepoint site for a client, works great in the network, however they have asked if they could use that as there internet site. Is it possable with sharepoint 3 or do i need 2007.
and if it is, could someone point me in the direction of a great how to?

You can certainly publish WSS to the outside world. If it is going to be an anonymous internet facing site, you will probably need to purchase the Windows Server 2003 External Connector (which runs around $3000 I think on Open licensing). Also, look at alternate address mappings (AAM) for changing URLs




Basics would be to publish it to the web like any other web server and pop the public URL in AAM. As long as the external DNS is set up correctly, you should then be good to go.
