How would you go about creating a feature for your site in which visitors can "register" as a member, and have their own "member profile" page where they can upload a small picture and list some personal information?

If you have time, please quickly visit the site and look at their member feature...it's so, SO well done. Developers, please let me know how they did that!

Thanks in advance!

The quick answer is there are (in theory) 2 ways to do it. First and best would be to use Active Server Pages (ASP) and a database (e.g. MySQL). That's the way most sites would do it.

There is a quicker and dirtier way to do it using Javascript, which basically involves manually maintaining an array with one element for each member. As I say it's quick but manual work! Member's can't maintain their own profiles, you could end up with a very large Javascript include file which maintains the array, and most importantly, ANYONE can get access to all member's information.

If you're serious about this, I suggest option 1 is the way to go. There must be examples of this available for download at the various ASP sites.

HTH :)

Greg.
