Hello everyone. I have been asked to create a presentation and need it to automatically run. I know absolutely nothing about auto run. Presentation ? No problem. Auto run ? BIG problem.

Thanks in advance.
Taylor

Taylor, maybe not such a big problem.

You need to insert a CD and have it autorun?

Or you need to double-click the file and have it "autorun"?

If the latter, just save it as a PowerPoint show (*.pps). The default "open" for this is the show and not the "edit" view of PowerPoint.

Double click. Okay - I will give it a go right now. thanks a bunch.

One more little tidbit- it is put on the intranet. I have saved to html before but then the index screen opens. How do I get the show just to run without having to see all the slides in index view? Basically - they want to have anyone with access to the intranet here to just click and it runs.

Thanks again. ( the pps - great ! )

Hi everyone,

Taylornow's original question (asked earlier in this thread) apparently was referring to the latter scenario - auto-running a PowerPoint presentation from a double-click. Well, I'm interested in the former scenario...

I have a .PPS file (PowerPoint show) which I wish to auto-run when a CD is inserted. How do I achieve this, as auto-run seems to only work with .EXE files?

Much appreciated,
Greggles.

Taylornow- As Dreamboat suggested, just save the show in .pps format and then put that out on the intranet with the link to it. If you're not sure if everyone on the intranet has powerpoint then you can also put a link to a powerpoint viewer that's available from microsoft.

Greggles- Modify the autorun.ini file to include the pps. I know that's the answer but I can't find my notes regarding the exact steps.

Some good info here ...worth a couple of STARS.

Thanks for the info.

Hi all,

Thanks for your reply, gamesman. I'm wondering if you have the instructions regarding Autorun.ini. I understand how autorun.inf works, but this only seems to run files with an .EXE extension. My file has a .PPS extension.

I've found a number of third party software sites that enable you to make a .PPS file auto-run from a CD, but all of them involve "over-kill" or require me to purchase their product - all I want is something simple. I just want the user to pop a CD in the drive and have the PowerPoint show start automatically. This surely doesn't involve rocket science, but there's a clump of my own hair on the desk beside me that bears testimony to my frustration at the lack of progress so far! Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Greggles.
