I would like to make a grid made up of 1"x1" squares I would like to make 10 columns by 10 rows. Isn't there a way to make one square and divide it up into 100 equal smaller squares. Thanks for the help.

I figured out how to use the grid tool to make the grid, but I have another question. I would like to place color inside the grid like a checkerboard. However, I am unable to select the individual squares in order to apply color. Does someone know how to select the individual squares. Thanks in advance.

I draw my box (eg 5mmx5mm) then under transform move. set the measurements to 5mm horizontal 0mm vertical, distance 5mm angle 0 then press copy.
I'll then hit the shortcut command-shift m to bring up the dialouge box again and press copy (because it keeps the figures I put in earlier). I'll do that for how many boxes I need. then select all the boxes hit command-shift m the change the horizontal to 0 and the vertical to 5mm or -5mm to do the vertical rows.
