Hi,
My boss's PC needs a completely fresh start, because it has a number of virus infected system files which the virus checker has been unable to repair, also there are a number of strange programs, icons, and dial up connections which he knows nothing about ! The PC has always been virus-protected, but at times the defs have gone out of date for a short while.
Even though I've tried to remove many of the programs, it seems it would take ages and ages to get the PC back working as it should be (it's also gone really, really slow !!) and I now feel the best way forward is to start again.
I would like to re-install Windows XP Pro onto a completely wiped clean hard drive where no virus/spyware or whatever could possibly lurk. But although I've done a format on a Windows 98 drive, I've never done this on a XP one.
I would also like to set up user accounts for each member of his family, password protected with only 1 person who has a password able to install software, but software accessible to all members of the family (esp. AOL, MS Office Pro, MSN Messenger).
Where can I find instructions on how to do this ?
If you know, could you let me know what files I need to back up to reinstall AOL after the re-install ? Is AOL/MSN Messenger going to be protected by the AV software we're now using (NAV 2004) ?
Your URGENT help would be appreciated. Because he needs me to do this tomorrow before he takes the PC back to his home.
Regards,
Jay/UK
