Making a colour transparent

hi,

can someone tell me how I make a gif image in fireworks have it's background colour transparent?. My image consists of photoshop text that has a drop shadow on a solid blue layer. I want to knock out the blue totally. Any ideas? (Im new to fireworks and web graphics). thanks in advance....

is the image flat? if it has layers and the solid blue is a layer you can delete it
or on export you can select the blue and change it to transparent using the transperancy picker tool.
or you can use the mask and select the background and mask it (I'm sure there is a tutorial in fireworks that shows you how to mask) Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..

thanks for your reply.trying some of your recommendatins made me realise that fireworks doesnt seem to import layer effects from photoshop - or does it? My drop shadow comes thrugh okay, but the other layer effect (on the very same text), i think it mught be inner glow or something does show through at all? why could this be?

it's a different file formatt, and no, alot of the effects don't come over . your best bet is to export from photoshop- creating the whole image there, and then just use fireworks to optimise the jpeg or gif, or build it all in fireworks.
