I would like to use make_recovery tool of HP to create boot disk, but it is required to install Ignite-UX. Is it possible to install it on production HP 11i without cause problems?

Are you sure it isn't already installed? I thought it was standard with 11x (for standalone use). Do an swlist -l fileset|grep Ignite to see if you have it.

If you don't, the software description says it doesn't require a reboot.

It is a relatively benign piece of software. Depending on how nervous your production folks are about having software installed, I see no reason why you shouldn't install it. In the end, it's for their own good (so you can plan for disaster recovery, for example).

It should cause no problem at all. Try running
# swinstall -s <installation file path>

The OS will analyse the installation. Check the log file and if you see no warning then it should be ok.

FYI:

I have never built a prodution server without installing
Ignite. At Universal Studios we use it for DR. It has saved
my job several times!

Yes I would do a check to see if ignite is installed.
Easiest way to do so is to lookup the man pages.

# man make_recovery

Usually if ignite is installed the man pages already have been setup as well.

Bear in mind that the newer command make_tape_recovery will eventually replace the make_recovery command in future releases of Ignite-UX.
